Scheduling Part Deux

Scheduling (Part Deux)   I recently wrote a post about scheduling. I want to elaborate a little more on it because, well, it’s important.  Have you ever found yourself making pretend plans with people?   Saying things like, “we’ll get together when the kids are in school”, or “let’s do it before the holidays” kind of like those timeframes will make it easier to do the plans. The truth is, most of those plans go unmade and we all just say them as filler or something to say, but deep down, not even deep down, we know we’re not gonna do...

Hey, designers, artisans and other makers, this post is for you. It’s mid-January now and WHEW, you made it through the holidays. Hopefully, you were able to take a few days of down time, but now it’s time to get yourself organized. Before you know it, Valentines’ Day will be upon us, and if you’re not ready or getting ready for it now, you’re going to feel like you’ve missed out on a big selling opportunity. Life is too short not to have a beautiful website

Are you ready to create a website?  These days it is expected for any company to have a website, even if it's only informational.  Mine for example is mostly informational, but I do have a fully functioning shopping cart. With all the discontent with Etsy, I have found more and more small designers and artisans are going to their own sites.  But, even before the controversy with Etsy, I have always recommended that designers invest in their own site.  It's a perception thing, having your own site just adds to your credibility.   Side Note:  Don't get me wrong I...

You want to be the kind of person who celebrates the wins of others, but you’d really just like a few wins of your own. You are definitely not alone. When I first started selling my line of  jewelry people would say, “Oh, you should make something like, this designer, I love their work” or worse I would see another designer getting accounts that I wanted and think, “Why...

I know you lovely jewelry makers love to make One-of-a -Kinds. It’s not only fun, but it’s practical because you just use what you have. When I first started in jewelry I would do the same thing as well, but I soon found out that this wasn’t helping me grow my business and it wasn’t sustainable. At least for me, my pieces weren’t expensive enough to make any significant money from the sale of only one item per design. The first thing I had to do was to consider all my costs, and make sure I was earning a profit from...
